descending phlebography
a method for detecting reversed flow of blood: contrast medium is injected into the common femoral vein with the patient in an upright position; since it is heavier than blood the contrast medium may move downward spontaneously or when encouraged by a Valsalva maneuver, thus indicating any incompetent valves or other areas of reversed flow.
