chronic constrictive pericarditis

chronic constrictive pericarditis
constrictive pericarditis chronic pericarditis in which a fibrotic, thickened, adherent pericardium restricts diastolic filling and cardiac output. It is usually a consequence of a series of events beginning with an acute episode in which fibrin and sometimes calcium are deposited on the pericardial surface, followed by fibrotic scarring and thickening of the pericardium and obliteration of the pericardial space.
