hexosamine pathway

hexosamine pathway
hexosamine biosynthetic pathway a series of enzymatic reactions by which a small amount of glucose is diverted away from the Embden-Meyerhof pathway to form uridine compounds such as uridine-diphosphate-N-acetylglucosamine. This is one cause of hyperglycemia-induced and fat-induced insulin resistance and aids formation of compounds such as proteoglycan and O-linked glycoproteins.
