caldesmon

caldesmon
An F-actin cross-linking protein that, at low or absent calcium levels, binds to tropomyosin and actin and prevents myosin binding. [calcium + G. desmos, bond, fr. deo, to bind]

cal·des·mon (kal-dezґmən) a calcium-binding protein existing in two isoforms: a high molecular weight form found in smooth muscle and a low molecular weight form found in nonmuscle cells; it blocks the myosin binding site by binding to F-actin and plays a role in the calcium-dependent regulation of actin-myosin interaction.
