- [TA] posterior thoracic nucleus: a well-defined column of cells in the medial part of the intermediate zone (lamina VII) of the spinal gray matter, medial to the intermediolateral cell column, usually extending from the eighth cervical segment caudally to the second or third lumbar segment; it gives rise to the ipsilateral posterior spinocerebellar tract. Called also thoracic column, Clarke column or nucleus, dorsal thoracic nucleus, nucleus thoracicus dorsalis [TA alternative], and Stilling column or nucleus.
