nucleus dentatus

nucleus dentatus
[TA] dentate nucleus: the largest and most lateral of the cerebellar nuclei, lying in the white matter of the cerebellum just lateral to the emboliform nucleus, and receiving Purkinje cell fibers primarily from the lateral cortical zone; its axons form most of the superior cerebellar peduncle and project chiefly to the contralateral red nucleus and thalamus, and also to the reticular and vestibular nuclei and inferior olive. It is the term preferred in official terminology when considering humans, and is frequently also used to describe nonhuman primates. Called also lateral cerebellar n. See also n. lateralis cerebelli.
