nucleoside-phosphate kinase
- nucleoside-phosphate kinase
- nu·cleo·side-phos·phate ki·nase (nooґkle-o-sīd fosґfat kiґnās) [EC 2.7.4.4] any enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the transfer of a phosphate from ATP to a nucleoside phosphate to form a nucleoside diphosphate. The reaction is part of the mechanism that regenerates high energy nucleotides for metabolic processes and conserves the purine-pyrimidine pool. Specific enzymes exist for individual nucleosides (e.g., adenylate kinase).
