dysplastic nevus
dysplastic melanocytic nevus a type of acquired, atypical melanocytic nevus with an irregular border, indistinct margin, and mixed coloring, characterized by dysplastic melanocytes in the epidermis. Particularly in patients with other family who have these lesions, they may be precursors of malignant melanoma. See also dysplastic nevus syndrome, under syndrome. Called also atypical or atypical melanocytic n., atypical or dysplastic mole, and Clark n.
