- toxoplasmic meningoencephalitis
- the meningoencephalitis that sometimes occurs in toxoplasmosis, characterized by seizures and mental confusion, followed by coma and death if untreated. Pathologically, the brain may contain cysts and necrotic areas, with occasional hydrocephalus caused by blockage of aqueducts by sloughed material. There is a sharply increased incidence, often with recurring attacks, in immunocompromised patients. Called also toxoplasmic encephalitis or encephalomyelitis.
