Leishmania amazonensis

Leishmania amazonensis
a species, of the subgenus Leishmania,, transmitted by Lutzomyia flaviscutellata, and causing New World cutaneous leishmaniasis in the Amazon region of Brazil and neighboring countries and in Trinidad. L. amazonensis is considered by some authorities to be a complex including also the species L. garnhami; others consider the two species to be synonymous.
