low pressure mercury arc lamp

low pressure mercury arc lamp
an ultraviolet radiation lamp having a low vapor pressure, low amperage, high voltage, and a glow discharge; more than 95 per cent of its emission is ultraviolet C in the mercury vapor resonance emission line at 254 nm. In the treatment of skin disorders such as acne, the radiation causes acute erythema followed by desquamation of the affected skin.
