α-lactalbumin

α-lactalbumin
a milk protein that is a component of lactose synthase; it has no catalytic activity but alters the specificity of the catalytic subunit (glycoprotein 4-β-galactosyltransferase) so that glucose becomes the preferred acceptor substrate and lactose is synthesized.
