α-ketoglutaric acid
α-ke·to·glu·tar·ic ac·id (ke″to-gloo-tarґik) 2-oxopentanedioic acid, 2-oxoglutaric acid, an intermediate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (q.v.); α-ketoglutarate is also produced from glutamate in amino group transfer reactions and by oxidative deamination.
