pitted keratolysis

pitted keratolysis
a superficial bacterial infection of the skin, usually involving the weightbearing portions of the soles of the feet, characterized by shallow asymptomatic round pits, some of which become confluent to form fissures; it is usually caused by infection with Kytococcus sedentarius or Corynebacterium species, which produce a proteolytic enzyme that digests the stratum corneum. Called also keratoma plantare sulcatum.
