3-hy·droxy·iso·bu·ty·ryl (hi-drok″se-i″so-buґtə-rəl) the acyl radical of an isomer of 3-hydroxybutyric acid; the thioester formed with coenzyme A, 3-hydroxyisobutyryl CoA, is an intermediate in the catabolism of valine.
