subtractive hybridization

subtractive hybridization
a technique for isolating sequences expressed in one cell type but not in another; when a cDNA population prepared from the mRNA of one cell type is hybridized to the mRNA population of the second, and the cDNA:mRNA hybrids removed, the remaining single-stranded cDNA molecules represent the mRNA sequences expressed only in the first cell type.
