het·ero·phil·ic (het″ər-o-filґik) 1. pertaining to or having heterophils. 2. staining with a type of stain other than the usual one. 3. heterophile. 4. of cell adhesion molecules, binding to a nonidentical cell adhesion molecule in an adjacent cell.
