- herpes zoster involving the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve, characterized by a cutaneous vesicular rash on an erythematous base along the nerve path, preceded by lancinating pain, usually accompanied by conjunctivitis and sometimes by keratitis, scleritis, iridocyclitis, extraocular muscle palsies, ptosis, and mydriasis. In some patients it can lead to glaucoma and blindness. Called also gasserian ganglionitis, h. ophthalmicus, and ophthalmic zoster.
