hepcidin

hepcidin
hep·ci·din (hepґsi-din) [hepatocyte bactericidal protein] a peptide hormone, expressed in the liver, that regulates iron homeostasis by inhibiting iron uptake in the duodenum and inhibiting release of iron from macrophages by interfering with the activity of ferroportin. Overexpression results in iron deficiency anemia and deficiency results in hemochromatosis.
