Jarvik-7 artificial heart
original name for an air-driven artificial heart consisting of two smooth-surfaced, sac-like polyurethane pumps that replaced the ventricles, and two pneumatic power units that regulated blood flow by pulsing air through tubing drive lines; it is still used as a bridge to transplantation.
