glycine hydroxymethyltransferase
- glycine hydroxymethyltransferase
- gly·cine hy·droxy·meth·yl·trans·fer·ase (gliґsēn hi-drok″se-meth″əl-transґfər-ās) [EC 2.1.2.1] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the reversible transfer of a methylene group from serine to tetrahydrofolate to form 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate and glycine. The enzyme is a pyridoxal phosphate protein. The reaction occurs in mitochondria and is a major source of one-carbon units for folate-mediated transfer reactions. Called also serine hydroxymethyltransferase.
