β-glucuronidase

β-glu·cu·ron·i·dase (gloo″ku-ronґĭ-dās) [EC 3.2.1.31] a lysosomal enzyme of the hydrolase class that catalyzes cleavage of terminal glucuronic acid residues from a variety of β-glucuronides. It is important for the degradation of a variety of glycosaminoglycans, including dermatan sulfate, heparan sulfate, and the chondroitin sulfates. Deficiency of the enzyme, an autosomal recessive trait, results in Sly syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis VII).
