brainstem glioma

brainstem glioma
a heterogeneous group that includes gliomas anywhere in the brainstem; they are seen mainly in children and cause neuropathy with motor symptoms and problems of gait, speech, and swallowing. The diffuse, intrinsic type is difficult to treat and usually fatal within two years. The dorsal, exophytic type is focal, arises in the floor of the fourth ventricle, grows slowly, and may be amenable to resection.
