[TA] scaphoid fossa of sphenoid bone: a depression on the superior part of the posterior portion of the medial plate of the pterygoid process of the sphenoid bone, giving attachment to the tensor veli palatini muscle. Called also navicular f. of Cruveilhier or of sphenoid bone.
