trefoil factor
(TFF) any of a family of protease-resistant peptides having a three-loop structure consisting of six cysteine residues and three disulfide bonds, expressed throughout the gastrointestinal tract. They promote epithelial cell migration and gastrointestinal wound healing, prevent apoptosis and anoikis, and contribute to mucosal protection; TFF1 is also a tumor suppressor. TFF1 is called also pS2; TFF2, spasmolytic polypeptide or spasmolysin; and TFF3, intestinal trefoil f.
