steroidogenic factor 1

steroidogenic factor 1
(SF-1) a zinc finger orphan nuclear receptor expressed in primary steroidogenic tissues and important for the development of the adrenal glands and for the regulation of several genes involved in reproduction, steroidogenesis, and male sexual differentiation; SF-1 disruption results in adrenal and gonadal agenesis, absence of pituitary gonadotrophs, ambiguous genitalia, and abnormalities of the hypothalamus.
