fractional excretion of sodium

fractional excretion of sodium
(FENa) an assessment of acute renal failure comparing the renal clearance of sodium with the creatinine clearance:

expressed as a per cent, where PCr = plasma concentration of creatinine, PNa = plasma concentration of sodium, UCr = urinary concentration of creatinine, and UNa = urinary concentration of sodium. A value below 1.0 indicates that renal failure is due to prerenal azotemia, and a value above 2.0 suggests that it is due to acute tubular necrosis. Cf. renal failure index, under index.
