coast erysipelas

coast erysipelas
(Sp. erisipela de la costa), a cutaneous manifestation of onchocerciasis seen in Central America, so called because of its resemblance to streptococcal erysipelas, characterized by an erythematous macular rash and edema of the face; in chronic cases the skin loses its elasticity, atrophies, becomes wrinkled, and causes leonine facies.
