avoidant personality disorder
[DSM-IV] a personality disorder characterized by social discomfort, hypersensitivity to criticism, low self-esteem, and an aversion to activities that involve significant interpersonal contact; there is a proclivity to anxiety, an exaggeration of difficulties, a desire for affection and acceptance that is restrained for fear of rejection, and an avoidance of risks or new activities for fear of embarrassment.
