Hashimoto disease

Hashimoto disease
a progressive type of autoimmune thyroiditis with lymphocytic infiltration of the gland and circulating antithyroid antibodies; patients have goiter and gradually develop hypothyroidism. It has a familial predisposition, usually affects women, and sometimes precedes the onset of Graves disease or is manifested after the major symptoms subside. Called also Hashimoto, chronic lymphadenoid, or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, and lymphadenoid goiter.
