diaper dermatitis
irritant dermatitis in the area in contact with the diaper in infants, sparing the skinfold areas, caused by a reaction to prolonged contact with urine and feces; it may be aggravated by friction or maceration, or by presence of soaps or other topical preparations left on the skin. It is commonly associated with secondary bacterial and yeast infections, especially with Candida albicans. Popularly known as diaper rash and napkin or nappy rash. Called also napkin or nappy d.
