- dй·jа vu (daґzhah vooґ) [Fr. “already seenâ€] an illusion in which a new situation is incorrectly viewed as a repetition of a previous situation. The term is often used more generally to denote any sensation that appears to have already occurred or been perceived, e.g., thoughts, desires, or experiences.
