brain-heart infusion medium
an agar medium containing calf brain and beef heart infusion, peptone, glucose, and phosphate buffer; sheep blood may also be added. It is used for the cultivation of bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi. A broth medium without the agar is used for cultivating the pneumococcus for the bile solubility test. Called also BHIA m.
