intra-aortic balloon (IAB) counterpulsation
circulatory support provided by a balloon inserted into the thoracic aorta, which is inflated during diastole (enhancing coronary perfusion pressure) and deflated during systole, resulting in a decrease in afterload and improvement in cardiac function.
