acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis
a highly contagious disease, certain epidemics of which have been associated etiologically with enteroviruses, characterized by subconjunctival hemorrhage varying from minute petechiae to confluent hemorrhages, and by sudden swelling of the eyelids and congestion, redness, and pain in the eye.
