premedullary cistern
a subarachnoid cistern sometimes recognized separately, lying ventral to the medulla oblongata and continuous caudally with the spinal subarachnoid space. It contains the terminal part of the vertebral artery, the anterior spinal artery, and the anterior medullary vein.
