Anichkov (Anitschkow) cell

Anichkov (Anitschkow) cell
a plump modified macrophage found in the Aschoff bodies, inflammatory lesions of the heart characteristic of rheumatic fever; they contain round to ovoid nuclei with a central, slender ribbon of chromatin. Called also Anichkov myocyte, cardiac histiocyte, and caterpillar c.
