fibrolamellar carcinoma

fibrolamellar carcinoma
a rare variant of hepatocellular carcinoma in which there is a solitary mass, no evidence of cirrhosis, and no male predominance. It is characterized histologically by eosinophilic polygonal hepatocytes that contain swollen mitochondria, cytoplasmic bodies, and hyaline bodies and have prominent nucleoli; the cells are surrounded by a stroma of thin parallel collagen bands. Called also fibrolamellar hepatoma.
