anaplastic thyroid carcinoma a type of thyroid gland carcinoma with atypical cells of various types and patterns; it may be silent for years but then become highly malignant and locally invasive. It affects mainly the elderly and somewhat more women than men. Called also undifferentiated c. of thyroid gland.
