(BrdU) (BUdR) 5-bro·mo·de·oxy·uri·dine (BrdU) (BUdR) (bro″mo-de-ok-se-uґrĭ-din) a thymidine analogue that can be incorporated into DNA during replication and is used as a mutagen in genetic research; it causes breakage in chromosomal regions rich in heterochromatin and also alters the staining of chromatids.
