purple nonsulfur bacterium
a photosynthetic, heterotrophic, microaerophilic bacterium of the family Rhodospirillaceae. Purple nonsulfur bacteria reduce CO2 and oxidize sulfide or thiosulfate but not elemental sulfur in the presence of the pigment bacteriochlorophyll a.
