apertura thoracis superior
[TA] superior thoracic aperture: the elliptical opening at the superior end of the thorax, bounded by the first thoracic vertebra, the first ribs and cartilage, and the upper margin of the manubrium sterni. Called also thoracic inlet. NOTE: In clinical usage, the term “thoracic outlet syndrome” refers to this structure, not to the apertura thoracis inferior.
