spider angioma

spider angioma
a telangiectasis with a red central portion and branching lines like a silhouette of a spider with its legs; it is caused by dilatation and ramification of superficial cutaneous arteries, and may occur singly or in groups. Spider angiomas may be congenital (nevoid) or acquired, such as in association with pregnancy or liver disease. See also vascular nevus, under nevus. Called also arterial or vascular spider, nevus araneus, spider nevus, and spider telangiectasia.
