tropical macrocytic anemia

tropical macrocytic anemia
a type of nutritional macrocytic anemia seen in impoverished tropical regions, resembling pernicious anemia but without achlorhydria and only erratically responsive to vitamin B12. The etiology is often related to folate deficiency, and administration of folic acid usually produces marked improvement.
