af·la·tox·i·co·sis (af″lə-tok″sĭ-koґsis) an often fatal type of mycotoxicosis affecting turkeys and other farm animals fed on peanut meal or seedlings of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea) contaminated with the molds Aspergillus flavus and related species, which produce aflatoxin. Symptoms include liver necrosis, bile duct proliferation, and cirrhosis, and, with prolonged feeding, hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. Called also x disease.
