- β-alanine–α-ketoglutarate transaminase
- β-al·a·nine–α-ke·to·glu·ta·rate trans·am·i·nase (alґə-nēn ke″to-glooґtə-rāt trans-amґĭ-nās) an enzyme activity that transfers the amino group from β-alanine to α-ketoglutarate, forming glutamate and malonate semialdehyde as a step in the metabolism of β-alanine. The enzyme can also act on γ-aminobutyrate and S-β-aminoisobutyrate; it has been listed as a secondary activity of the enzyme 4-aminobutyrate transaminase but may be a separate enzyme. Deficiency of this enzyme activity causes hyper-β-alaninemia.
