opacities in the vitreous humour of the eye, which cast a shadow on the retina and are therefore seen as dark shapes against a bright background in good illumination. They are a form of entoptic phenomena.

float·ers (floґtərz) “spots before the eyes”; deposits in the vitreous of the eye, usually moving about and probably representing fine aggregates of vitreous protein occurring as a benign degenerative change. Called also vitreous f's and muscae volitantes.
