compensation neurosis

compensation neurosis
a fixed preoccupation with real or imaginary disability following an industrial or civil injury, when there is a possibility of financial compensation. The condition tends to deprive the affected person of the motive to overcome the alleged disability and to acknowledge the natural processes of recovery. Uncompensated disability often persists for many years, but the disorder often clears up soon after a satisfactory settlement.
