a condition of disturbed consciousness in which the individual can still carry out some normal activities but is impaired in his awareness and has no memory of what he has done. It is encountered after epileptic attacks, in alcoholism, and in organic states of confusion. It may be associated with other symptoms, such as physical and mental slowing, episodes of rage, and hallucinations. Twilight states last only for a short time, commonly a few hours.* * *
a temporary absence of consciousness in which the patient may perform certain acts involuntarily and without remembrance of them afterward. Examples are complex partial seizures, absence seizures, and dreamy states.
