insulin zinc suspension n a suspension of insulin for injection in a buffered solution containing zinc chloride in which forms of insulin which are relatively slowly and rapidly absorbed are in the approximate ratio of 3:7 called also Lente insulin

[USP] an intermediate-acting insulin with an approximate time of onset of 2 hours and duration of action of 24 hours, consisting of a sterile suspension of insulin in buffered water for injection with the addition of a suitable zinc salt such that the solid phase of the suspension contains a 7:3 ratio of crystalline to amorphous insulin. Administered subcutaneously.
